Mechanic disappointed his detailer mate won’t do a freebie paint correction as a “favour”

Mechanic disappointed his detailer mate won’t do a freebie paint correction as a “favour”

We caught up with the mechanic who had the hiccup at work today “I honestly thought we were closer than that, I had him down as a real mate.”

“I’ve had a bad day at work, and the last thing I need is a “friend” trying to charge me to help fix it. Instead of letting me know how quickly he would be available to come take a look, he starts going on about how there is a 6-month waiting list, and asking “how much budget do I have?”… How much budget?! We are mates, why can’t he just be decent and help. If I owned the garage I work at, he KNOWS I would help him out. It’s not my fault I don’t.”

We managed to catch up with the detailer in question. “I used to go to school with him. Not sure when we last spoke, but he just fell into my inbox this morning acting like he was doing me a favour by letting me work on a Ferrari Enzo. Then I am almost certain he was angling for me to do the job for free. I haven’t even seen the car.”

It is fair to say that the jury is out on this one. What do you think? Should a detailer charge for their work? Or be “decent” and just do their mates cars?
